Software Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with HSLAB Shutdown Folder, please read this. Also look at the Shutdown Folder help file that ships with the program. It is updated with troubleshooting information as we learn about fixes to common problems.

General problem: HSLAB Shutdown Folder does not shutdown a computer or not shutdown to a power-off state.

  • Ensure the "Force Shut Down" option is checked.
  • Ensure that the Enable Power Off checkbox is selected.
  • Please check the APM (Advanced Power Management) features:

    - Right click on desktop.
    - From Display Properties, select Screen Saver tab.
    - Click power button.
    - do you see an APM tab in the Power Options Properties?
If yes, enable Advanced Power Management and click OK.

  • Add the APM (Advanced Power Management) hardware support:

    - Start the Control Panel.
    - Select the Add/Remove Hardware icon.
    - Select Add/Troubleshoot device.
    - Add New Device.
    - Select "No - I want to select the hardware from a list."
    - Select Apm/Legacy Support.
    - Click Next.
    - Click Next.
    - Click Finish.
    - Restart the computer.

  • If none of the above resolve the problem, and you are running Windows 2000(in Windows NT 4 you should replace the HAL for enabling power off), there may be a problem with your HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) or BIOS. Check with the manufacturer of your computer to determine if there are updated BIOS code or drivers for your specific computer model.

Problem executing *.bat and *.cmd command files from "Shutdown Folder": The command files which are placed in "Shutdown Folder" are not started on execution when system shuts down.

  • This is not software bug, but it is a Windows 2000 feature;
  • Place in the "Shutdown Folder" not executable file itself, but the shortcut to it.
